Being the Birth anniversary of Babasaheb Ambedkar, I consider today as a great day. Many upper caste Hindus criticize Ambedkar for introducing reservations to Dalits. Had he not introduced reservations to Dalits, India at some point of time during the last five decades would definitely have plunged into a civil war. When he introduced reservations, he did it only for a period of ten years. But our politicians as part of their vote bank politics are perpetuating reservations. They are reluctant to remove those people who have already derived the benefits of reservation from the list of back ward people.
Many Dalits who embrace either Christianity or Islam are still claiming themselves as Hindus and deriving the benefit of reservations. This is nothing but deceiving the society. By doing this they are proving that Christianity and Islam also have caste system. It is a well known fact that even in Christianity and Islam there is discrimination against their followers. The white skinned Christians dehumanized the black Christians and the great leaders like Martin Luther King Jr, and Nelson Mandela had to struggle hard to get the rights to which they are entitled to. In Islam the sectarianism created deep rooted divisions and causing bloodshed and scores of innocent people are losing their lives just because they belong to a particular sect like Sunni, Shia, Sufi, Ahmadi, Mohajir, Mehdi etc.
Inspite of all these facts the preachers of these religions try to take the moral high ground and criticize Hinduism and use caste system to convert the followers of Hindu way of life into their religious fold. There are also extremely dangerous demands made by Christian missionaries and the Moulvis for the introduction of religion based reservations. The power hungry Congress government tried hard and succeeded to some extent in serving its narrow political ends. If they introduce religion based reservation they would be sowing the poisonous seeds which may result in the bitter harvest in the form of another partition of the country.
The caste system though it was created on the basis of professions, later on took an ugly shape and the upper caste Hindus discriminated against the followers of their own way of life (Sanathana Dharma). For all the sins we have committed, we are paying the price now. Our brothers and sisters are getting converted into either Islam or Christianity and creating problems to the country either by separatism or forming pressure groups.
Ambedkar also converted into other religion but he had chosen Buddhism which is part and parcel of our culture. This shows his judiciousness in decision making. Even during partition Ambedkar was bitterly critical of Muslim league and its demand for Pakistan. He was very frank in his observations saying that the assumption that Hindus and Muslims would be able to live together is sheer foolishness and given the religious bigotry and the opposition to the reformation in Muslim community, the co-existence of Muslims and Hindus is not at all possible. But unfortunately the so-called national heroes "Rangeela Gandhi" and the "womanizer Nehru” did not listen to him (may be out of caste feeling) and perpetuated the scourge of terrorism. On this occasion I pay tribute to this great soul...perhaps the true Mahatma and hope his ideas and ideals would continue to guide our nation.
